About

camera-full-view-page-about.jpgShowscan Entertainment began in 1984 under Paramount Pictures with the introduction of the Academy-Award winning Showscan Process developed by renowned visual effects artist Douglas Trumbull ("Back to the Future: the Ride", "2001: A Space Odyssey", "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", "Star Trek: The Motion Picture", "Blade Runner"). Trumbull's groundbreaking Showscan CP-65 camera and projection system allowed filmmakers to shoot and exhibit 70mm film at 60 frames-per-second, creating images of unsurpassed clarity, vividness, and brightness. Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun Times praised Showscan as, "the most realistic motion picture I had ever seen in my life. Incomparably more realistic than anything I had ever seen before on a movie screen...it is the future of cinema. It is not some kind of gimmick, like 3-D or Cinerama." Throughout the industry, the Showscan Process was hailed as an innovation as revolutionary as the advent of sound and color. In 1986, Showscan created the first high quality simulation film, "Tour of the Universe", which combined Showscan film with motion simulation seating for an unprecedented visual and sensory experience. This began a series of cutting-edge simulation based productions that were featured in expos and theme parks around the world. Through these years, Showscan never stopped refining and improving their technologies. In 1993, Douglas Trumbull and his Showscan Team won the Academy Award for the latest version of its CP-65 Showscan Camera, which was hailed as the best modern 65mm camera to be developed in 25 years.
